The Debut LP from Torae, "Daily Conversation" is a fantastic asset to hip hop and what it is today. From a man who runs with dipset comes a.... great album actually. (not hating on dipset, he's just a different flavor)
Lyrics 8
Torae's flow and delivery are on point. His lyricism doesn't leave anything to be desired, but its nothing new or exciting either. Its not that his lyrics are bland or boring, its just that its all been said and done before. I will give him some credit though, he would probably be the nicest one in dipset had he been signed to them.
Production 9
3 words. Khrysis, 9th, and PRIMO. Thats all that needs to be said. Every track from beginning to end has amazing production. I only give it a 9.5 because I dont like the beat to Somethin' to See, but to each his own.
Song Concepts 8
Torae's songs aren't riddled with obscurity ( a la MF DOOM) or just too elementary (a la a lot of mainstream rap), but it is something good. His song concepts range from being an up and coming artist, to getting signed, to the streets calling his name. Unfortunately, these song concepts are nothing new, and Torae does nothing to make them more interesting than they already are.
Stand Out Tracks:
Click - Its produced by DJ Premier. If that doesn't mean something to you, you should not be here.
Overall - 8/10
Just shy of an "amazing album" score, Torae's debut "Daily Conversation" should not be overlooked. With production from legendary producers and solid lyrics, Torae should expect monumental sales. But probably will not because he hasn't received to much promo from what I have seen. However in my humble opinion, Torae's debut brought nothing new and exciting to the table. Its still a good album though.
Peace,
The ILLest Villain
